In 1992, Donegal CP breeders decided to co-operate with one another for the purpose of marketing their stock for sale, and they formed the Connemara Pony Breeders (Donegal) Group with Clive Evans as its Co-ordinator. This group worked in conjunction with and had the support of the Connemara Pony Breeders' Society that assisted in regular breeding seminars in the County.
Although the group's principal aim was to market stock for sale, it was also available to assist anyone with queries or problems which had a specific Donegal application. It served as a focus of interest for breeding in the area and attracted Members from neighbouring counties in Ireland. Since June 1995 it organised a series of in-hand Classes for the Connemara Pony in the Finn Valley Agricultural Show, Killygordon, where they showed their animals and encouraged others to do the same.
In March 2000, the group expanded to promote the interests of Connemara breeders in Donegal and the neighbouring counties, the CPBG became a major part of the Derry Donegal & Tyrone Connemara Pony Breeders Group. They arrange advisory meetings for breeders and sponsor classes for the Connemara in the Finn Valley Show in June each year. In addition, ponies for sale are collated with the Secretary at bruc@bruckless.com where any queries are addressed.
